Bobbins! / Art Assembly Manchester

For Art Fund’s Art Assembly 2022, I collaborated with a group of students from BA (hons) Fine Art at the University of Salford.  We spent an incredible six months working together to create a new piece of public artwork for the one day festival that took place across the city on the 18th June.

Appearing at Fred Aldous, Piccadilly 111, Manchester Art Gallery & Sackville Gardens, Bobbins! hoped to raise awareness about women’s issues that often are hidden, taboo or ignored in both a historical and contemporary context and highlight how glacially slow change happens.

Collaborating with the folk arts group Oakenhoof, the commission also featured participatory maypole dancing and singing which took place in Sackville Gardens and was inspired by late 19th century protest & women’s rights banners and mid 18th century folk ballads.
